Pritzker announces State Treasurer support, Kennedy announces Police Board President support

Democratic candidates for governor began turning up the heat this week, rolling out high profile endorsements in their quest for the nomination.

J.B. Pritzker’s campaign announced Wednesday Illinois State Treasurer Mike Frerichs endorsed his candidacy. Frierichs said of Pritzker, “As the state’s chief investment officer, I’m confident that JB Pritzker will restore fiscal responsibility in Illinois and I’m so proud to endorse his campaign today.”

Frierichs also took the opportunity to bash Governor Bruce Rauner on his financial mismanagement. “I’ve seen firsthand how Bruce Rauner has wrecked our state finances, putting Illinois through a historic budget impasse and pushing colleges and universities to the brink.”

Also this week, candidate Chris Kennedy announced the endorsement of Chicago Police Board President Lori Lightfoot.

“He’s somebody who has lived through that experience and has tremendous credibility and empathy in talking about those issues,” Lightfoot said.

Lightfoot said she supported Kennedy in large part because of his plan to stop gun violence. “Four gun dealers are responsible for the lion’s share of what we call crime guns on the street,” she said. “Tackling that on a state level … could have tremendous impact.”
