CHRONICLE: Conservative billionaire Koch brothers: We’re all in for Rauner

The Koch brothers announced in a strategic meeting this weekend that Governor Bruce Rauner will be among the recipients of an estimated $400 million they are planning to spend on behalf of Republicans.

Charles and David Koch are the country’s most prodigious donors to conservative causes. The Kochs have given hundreds of millions of dollars to building conservative groups that further their agenda to create policies that would benefit themselves – the richest Americans and their corporations.

They also became major backers of President Donald Trump, spending a reported $300 – $400 million in the 2018 election alone.

Last fall, Charles Koch donated $5,600 to Rauner’s campaign fund. “This donation proves what many have long suspected: Bruce Rauner is the Koch Brothers’ favorite governor,” said Jake Lewis, campaign director for Illinois Working Together at the time.

“Unfortunately for these right-wing billionaires, no amount of Koch money will hide Governor Rauner’s failure to grow jobs or fix Illinois’ finances.”

Last January, amid the budget impasse, Rauner attended a secret policy summit in California hosted by the Kochs. Of that meeting, IFT President Dan Montgomery said, “In one of our darkest hours, he’s plotting with billionaires on how to make the rich richer.”
