No matter how handy you are, every homeowner – or renter, needs a basic tool set to tackle home improvement or fixes as they come up.

Michelle Higgins in the New York Times rounds up the experts recommendations for your starter tool set.

“At a minimum, a good starter set will include a hammer, a tape measure, a screwdriver and bits, hex wrenches (also known as Allen wrenches), needle-nose pliers and a utility knife,” Higgins writes perHarry Sawyers, a senior editor at The Sweethome.
