Illinois Homepage is reporting, “Over the past few years, the UI has been hit hard by the budget impasse.
University officials worry thousands of students can’t be offered the same quality of education if the crisis goes on much longer.
But, there is already evidence of damage from the situation. UI leaders say their mission is to offer world-class education and research. The impasse is making it hard to protect that mission.
A UI spokesperson says they’re getting less than half the funding from the state than they did during fiscal year 2015, which was the last time the state had a full budget.
He says recruiting is starting to take a hit because college counselors are telling students it’s a risk to attend UI because of the budget situation.
To make up for lost dollars, the school has had to increase class sizes and leave open staff positions unfilled… “
