JOURNAL-REGISTER: 2 dead as outbreak related to synthetic pot use hits 56 people in Illinois

The State Journal-Register is reporting, “At least two people have died in Illinois following a recent rash of hospitalizations of people who use synthetic pot and then experience severe bleeding, according to state health officials.

One death was reported Saturday, and the second was reported Monday, but information about the people’s names, ages, gender and location of death was not released.

The deaths come as the state continues to see an uptick in the number of hospitalizations from people reporting severe bleeding after using a synthetic cannabinoid product. As of Monday, at least 56 people had been hospitalized in the Chicago area and in central Illinois, according to Illinois Department of Public Health officials. Nearly half of the cases — 26 — were in two Peoria-area counties, Peoria and Tazewell…”
