The State Journal-Register is reporting, “Local World War II veterans will be the grand marshals of the annual Veterans Day parade in downtown Springfield this year.
Korean War Army veteran and parade organizer Sam Montalbano of Springfield said he is reaching out to local World War II veterans and hopes to have several of them in the parade. The WWII vets will be riding in vehicles as the parade makes its way west down Capitol Avenue from the 10th Street railroad track to the Illinois Statehouse on Saturday. The parade begins at 10:20 a.m.
“I’d like the people to come out and salute these fellows,” Montalbano said. “Bring your children and help them understand what Veterans Day really is about. The reason we have the freedoms we have is because of these brave people.”
One of the World War II veterans expected to participate in the parade is Jasper Madonia of Springfield…”
