JOURNAL STAR: New riverfront concerts provide economic benefits

The Peoria Journal Star is reporting, “Peoria is not an “A” market in live music industry circles. A high-profile country musician, of the caliber of Eric Church, may come once or twice a year, as will an aging rocker or two. But it’s a struggle to bring en vogue musical acts to central Illinois.

“Fitz and the Tantrums doesn’t set up their tour saying, ‘We have to play in Peoria,’ ” said Leon Edwards, vice president of marketing for the local talent-buying business Inked Entertainment. “We fight for every show we get to Peoria.”

Despite those limitations, Inked Entertainment embarked on an ambitious plan this year to book more than a dozen concert dates to the Peoria riverfront in the summer months, a time usually defined by a dearth of national acts outside of the annual Peoria Blues and Heritage Festival and a few shows at the smaller CEFCU Center Stage…”
