Scott Darling’s emotional goodbye to Chicago

Former Blackhawks goalie Scott Darling has penned an emotional goodbye to Chicago, as the player packs his bags for Carolina.

For the past few months, I’ve been trying to figure out how to say goodbye to Chicago, and I just couldn’t find the words. In writing this story, I got choked up four or five different times. Maybe that sounds ridiculous, but that’s only if you don’t know how low of a place I clawed my way up from.

On his first time in the net for the Blackhawks, Darling wrote:

I remember I was standing in the crease during the national anthem, and I was looking up into the rafters at all the banners, and I had this crazy flashback to every team I ever played for — to standing in the crease and looking up into the rafters of every tiny barn that I played in along the way. Except this time, I was doing it at the United Center, where I had come as a kid with my dad.
