The Southern Illinoisan is reporting, “Spring is a colorful and melodic time of year in Southern Illinois.

The skeletal outlines of oak, maple and hickory take on a softer texture as their limbs are lined with the soft greens of emergent leaves. Red buds and dogwoods bloom, adding dashes of color to the forest.

The birds also undergo an amazing transformation. The bluebirds and goldfinch that winter in Southern Illinois become electrified. Gone are the drab browns and grays, replaced by neon blues and yellows…”
